Information provided by the Huntsville Police Department:

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. ? The National Association of Town Watch has announced that the 29th Annual National Night Out Program will take place on Tuesday, August 7, 2012.

The Huntsville Police Department, Huntsville Community Watch Association and Target are hosting a National Night Out Party in the Jaycees Building from 5 p.m. till 7 p. m. located at 2180 Airport Road. We would like to extend an invitation to anyone interested in helping to make Huntsville a safer place to live. We are going to have children events, free food, live entertainment, and a good time for all ages.

National Night Out, a year-long community building campaign, is designed to: (1) Heighten crime prevention awareness; (2) Generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs; (3) Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and (4) Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized, aware and are being vigilante against crime. The local Community Watch Association is also asking citizens to turn their porch lights on from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. to show support for the neighborhood Community Watch Associations of Huntsville.

Find more information on the website for National Night Out or for the Huntsville Community Watch Association.
