?This workshop will bring together representatives from LGBT nongovernmental organizations from across Albania and the region,? the US embassy in Tirana said.
?The purpose of this workshop is to support the efforts of these organizations to engage in open discussion about universal human rights and the challenges facing the LGBT community in Albania and throughout the region,? it added.
Attendees will experience three days on panel discussions, networking opportunities, film screenings and advocacy skills-building.? The event will feature speakers such as Kevin Sessums, a gay American author, editor, and actor, and Mindy Michels, a lesbian American scholar and activist who has lived in Tirana.
?The United States considers the rights of the LGBT community to be fundamental human rights,? the embassy said.
?The US government supports the efforts of those attempting to bring about positive change and promote and protect the human rights of LGBT persons: as part of engaging the groups working towards these goals,? it added.
