JFK airport 'insider' held over ?1.2m Goodfellas-style iPad mini heist

Cargo worker Renel Rene Richardson is suspected of acting as a look-out during the large-scale theft of the devices bound for China.

The theft took place at building 261 - the exact site where ?3.1million went missing in 1978 in a heist featured in the Oscar-nominated gangster movie Goodfellas.

A criminal complaint filed in Brooklyn federal court and cited by the New York Post, says Mr Richardson is believed to have had two accomplices at the Cargo Air Services building.

It is thought they arrived at around 11pm on November 12 in a white tractor trailer with 'Ceva' written on the side, in an area of the airport with the least security.

It is not clear whether the iPads have been found.

It is understood the thieves could have got away with more iPads, but were disturbed by three workers coming back from a dinner break.
