IMBA News ? Two National Parks Take Final Steps to Allow Mtn Biking

Mammoth Cave National Park in Kentucky and Saguaro National Park in Arizona are the two most recent National Park Service (NPS) properties to allow mountain biking. Two existing trails in Mammoth Cave and one in Saguaro were converted to multi-use status. Two additional, multi-use trails will be constructed in Mammoth Cave.

The application process for receiving a visit from the Subaru/IMBA Trail Care Crew is now open. The deadline for bike clubs, local trail groups and land management agencies to apply is Monday, Nov. 5. Active organizations should not miss this opportunity to learn about sustainable trail building, club growth and community trails development.

IMBA and IMIC Announce Partnership

International Mountain Bike Instructor Certifications (IMIC) and IMBA announced at the World Summit that the two organizations are teaming up to offer training for IMBA members interested in learning how to teach a wide range of mountain bike skills clinics. Details are still being worked out, but look for the program to be offered starting in 2013.

2012 Model Trails Announced, Recognitions in Idaho and Oregon

At the World Summit, IMBA announced the 2012 Model Trail award winners. Each year, IMBA recognizes outstanding mountain bike trails and locations with Model Trail designations, from Flow Country Trails to IMBA Ride Centers. Sun Valley, ID, was designated a silver Ride Center and the Waldo Lake Trail (OR) was named an IMBA Epic. The goal of the program is to inspire and inform so that we all have more great places to ride.

IMBA World Summit a Huge Success!

More than 400 mountain bike advocates, IMBA chapter representatives, bike industry partners and land managers from across the U.S. and all over the world attended all or part of the 6th biennial IMBA World Summit last week in Santa Fe, NM. IMBA thanks all who attended, especially the volunteers of the Santa Fe Fat Tire Society, for making it the best World Summit, ever!

SORBA-Midlands Wins USA Cycling/IMBA Trail Tune-Up Grant

SORBA-Midlands has been named the 2012 recipient of the USA Cycling/IMBA Trail Tune-Up Grant, netting $2,000 in funding and a follow-up visit from the Subaru/IMBA Trail Care Crew (TCC). The TCC?s assistance will allow SORBA-Midlands to move the Poinsett Race Circuit from a state forest with seasonal hunting closures and relocate it to an adjacent state park for year-round access.
